Goodreads Review Generator

The Goodreads Review Generator recreates one review from the Community Reviews list on a goodreads.com book page, the same layout the Goodreads apps show. It copies the live site's measurements and colours: the 44px round avatar, the serif reviewer name with an optional Goodreads Author badge, the "412 reviews · 2,318 followers" line, and the dark Follow pill. Below that come the orange stars with quarter-star steps, the full-month date, and review text that is cut at 160px with a fade and a "Show more" button. The green-underlined shelf tags, the "1,284 likes • 96 comments" line and the Like, Comment and ⋯ row finish the card. You can add the book header on top, with the cover, series line, title, author and average rating such as ★ 4.56 · 4,014,694 ratings. Pick light or dark mode. Everything runs in your browser, with no login and no uploads.

Light is goodreads.com's shipped look. Dark is the token set the iOS and Android apps use for the book page when the phone is in dark mode.

“No photo” shows Goodreads' reader silhouette placeholder.

12 / 40 characters — long names clip to one line with “…” like the app.

Shows as “412 reviews”

Shows as “2,318 followers”

4 / 5

Quarter steps draw partial orange stars. 0 = unrated, which shows the bold shelf name instead of stars.

Shows as “September 14, 2026” — full month, no leading zero.

471 / 4000 characters. Blank line = new paragraph. Formatting: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ||spoiler|| (blurred), and lines starting with “> ” become a quote.

Reviews shorter than 160px (about 6 lines) always show in full.

4 shelfs. Goodreads shows the first 3 and then “...more”. Leave empty to hide the row. Shelf names are usually lowercase-with-hyphens.

Shows as “1,284 likes”

Shows as “96 comments”

A zero count is hidden, as on Goodreads.

Auto

Upload the real cover for a true screenshot. Covers crop to the Goodreads book aspect with the rounded right edge.

Partial stars follow Goodreads' own rule (4.44 draws a quarter star, 4.56 a half).

Goodreads Review Generator features

Matched to goodreads.com

Spacing, colours and icons come from Goodreads' own stylesheet and markup, including the warm #1E1915 text, the #E87400 stars, the #409970 shelf underline and the exact thumbs-up, comment and star shapes.

Real star and number rules

Partial stars follow Goodreads' own thresholds, so a 4.44 average draws a quarter star and 4.56 a half. Counts follow the site too: 12,960 likes shows as 13k, and a zero count is hidden.

Every review state

Truncated with the "Show more" fade, expanded with "Show less", or full text. Also covers unrated reviews that show a bold "Read" shelf label, whole reviews hidden for spoilers, blurred inline spoilers and serif blockquotes.

Book header with cover

Upload and crop the real cover (rounded right edge, soft shadow) or use a generated one, then set the series line, title, author badge, average rating, ratings and reviews counts.

Follow, liked and author states

Switch between Follow, Following and Friends, show your own like in Goodreads green, and give the reviewer the Goodreads Author seal with a "books" count.

Light and dark, high-resolution PNG

Use the light website theme or the dark theme the apps use, then download a crisp, high-DPI PNG made entirely in your browser.

How to make a goodreads review mockup

  1. 1

    Set the reviewer

Upload and crop a profile photo or use the no-photo silhouette, type the name, review and follower counts, and pick the Follow button state.

  2. 2

    Rate and date it

Drag the rating slider in quarter steps, or set it to 0 for an unrated "Read" review, then pick the review date.

  3. 3

    Write the review and shelves

Type the review with blank lines between paragraphs, and use **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ||spoiler|| or a "> " quote. Then list the shelves, one per line.

  4. 4

    Add the book and export

Turn on the book header, upload the cover, set the average rating and counts, choose light or dark, and download a high-resolution PNG.

What you can use it for

  • Bookstagram and BookTok posts that quote a review
  • Author newsletters, launch graphics and blurb drafts (clearly labelled as mockups)
  • Book club slides and reading-challenge recaps
  • Classroom lessons on writing book reviews
  • UI comps and pitch decks for reading apps

Frequently asked questions

Is the Goodreads Review Generator free?

Yes. It is completely free with no login, no account and no export limits. A Pro option removes the watermark and doubles the export resolution.

Is it legal to make a fake Goodreads review?

Mockups are fine for bookstagram and BookTok content, author marketing drafts, design work and teaching. Do not present a made-up review as a real person's opinion, post fake reviews to influence a book's rating, or impersonate anyone. Respect Goodreads' trademarks.

Why does a 4.44 average show only a quarter star?

Goodreads does not round to the nearest quarter. A star is drawn full from 0.95, three-quarters from 0.70, half from 0.45 and a quarter from 0.11. So 4.44 gets a quarter star and 4.56 a half star. The generator uses the same rule.

How do I show a long review cut off with Show more?

Choose "Truncated" under Long reviews. Any review taller than 160px, about six lines, is cut with a fade and a "Show more" button, just like on the book page. Shorter reviews always show in full.

Does Goodreads have a dark mode?

The website is light only. The Goodreads apps show the book page in dark colours when your phone is in dark mode, and the generator's dark theme uses those same colours.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The generator runs in any modern mobile or desktop browser, so you can build and download a Goodreads review mockup from your phone.
